Howard Pressman Named Financial Planner of The Year

Washington, DC, January 21, 2015 — This month, CFP® Howard Pressman was named the 2015 Planner of the Year by the Financial Planning Association’s National Capital Area chapter.

The Financial Planning Association (FPA) award recognizes the achievement of a financial planner who:

  • Promotes the financial planning profession,
  • Does a considerable amount of community and charitable work,
  • Has gained media recognition,
  • Is a strong mentor,
  • Is innovative with financial planning techniques and practice management,
  • Has received individual or firm recognition, and
  • Is a current FPA member.

“I am incredibly honored by this award,” says Pressman, who had been at a Fortune 500 firm for 12 years when he decided to reinvent his practice at an independent firm that made financial planning the centerpiece of the client relationship.

Connections that he made at FPA chapter meetings led Pressman to join Egan, Berger & Weiner, LLC, in Vienna, VA, six years ago, where today he is a senior financial planner.

“I believe that financial planning is less about money and more about people,” Pressman insists. By focusing on his clients — their families, dreams, hopes, and visions — Pressman helps guide them to the best financial decisions for their lives and futures. “The key is teaching good money habits.”

This passion has led Pressman to become a vocal advocate for the financial planning profession. As chairman of the Government Relations Committee of the FPA’s National Capital Area chapter (FPA-NCA), he spoke up on Capitol Hill and in Annapolis to educate legislators about the value and importance of the financial planning profession.

Pressman has been a board member of the FPA-NCA for five years, having chaired several committees, and he is thrilled to serve as the Executive Committee secretary for 2015.

In addition, Pressman has been a teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools’ Adult Continuing Education system for five years, and works with several area nonprofit organizations to bring financial planning to those who might not otherwise have access to these services.

He has also served on the steering committee and been an active participant for Metro Washington Financial Planning Day every year since its inception in 2010.

Pressman has been featured on CNBC.com, WUSA Channel 9, and News Channel 8, as well as other digital and print media outlets, and he was named one of 2014’s Top Money Advisers by Washingtonian Magazine.
